Tourvest opens new restaurant at V&A Waterfront in Cape Town

Integrated tourism group Tourvest will be opening a new 200-seater restaurant with breath-taking views of Table Mountain and the harbour in the V&A Waterfront on 1 December 2016.

Called MAReSOL, the new restaurant offers authentic Portuguese cuisine with a touch of Mozambican flair. Brian Seaman, managing director of the restaurants and taverns business of Tourvest’s Travel Retail division says the restaurant has been designed by the esteemed Wollf architects with a key feature being a magnificent view of the harbour and the mountain from anywhere in the restaurant.

“There will be no shortage of much-loved Portuguese flavours to be enjoyed with a glass of Vinho Tinto. Sharing is encouraged and platters for the table can be created to include such classics as Figados de Galinha (chicken livers with onion and piri-piri), Chouriço (with roasted red peppers marinated with a garlic, thyme and sherry vinegar), Lulas (calamari with salsa verde or spicy paprika, garlic and chilli) and Prawn and Bacon (with black fig honey, apple and almond) to name a few combinations,” he says.

Main menu dishes include old favourites such as Piri-Piri Whole Baby Chicken, spicy Trinchado, Espetada and Bacalhau. “The menu also includes a heavy dose of shellfish such as langoustines, crayfish and prawns, while our desserts comprise authentic Portuguese delicacies like Pastéis de Nata and Leite Creme,” says Seaman. On average, starter menu dishes will be R65, main menu dishes R175 and desserts R55.

The internationally renowned and highly experienced Eva de Jesus will be the head chef. “She has proven herself when it comes to developing menus, setting up kitchen procedures and training staff including front of house product knowledge,” says Seaman. “She is excited by the combination of tastes in the Portuguese style of cooking. She has a passion for Portuguese flavours and uses an authentic method for preparing Portuguese food. All her ingredients are sourced locally to ensure freshness and all stocks and sauces are made from scratch,” he says.

MAReSOL is the latest addition to Tourvest’s portfolio of restaurants and taverns, which includes the Quay Four, also in the V&A Waterfront; the Cattle Baron Seafood Grill and Bistro in the Tsitsikamma National Park; the Cattle Baron Grill and Bistro in Skukuza in the Kruger National Park and the Addo Elephant Park; the Alba Lounge in the Cape Town and King Shaka International Airports; and the Black Marlin and Bertha’s in Simon’s Town.
